Transformers is a bust.

Transformers movie has grossed $65M domestically and $36M overseas so far. The movie is based on a Hasboro line of transforming toys that turn from cars and trucks and other automotive objects into intergalactic robot warriors. Unfortunately, the Transformers movie isn’t as entertaining as the Hasbro toys. Viewer and movie critics reports so far are of general consensus that the Transformers movie is mind-numbingly boring. It consists mostly of shallow dialogue and over-the-top special effects.

Even though the movie is about Transformers, the main characters of the movie are humans. Transformers show up here and there, mostly in super fast paced fight scenes. The majority of the movie is simply overloaded with dialogue.

Anyone who has seen a Michael Bay movie - like “Armageddon” or “Pearl Harbor” - knows he values hardware over human beings, so having giant special-effects-driven robot characters like Optimus Prime and his Autobots must have seemed like a dream.

Bay creates his usual overdone action sequences overloaded with special effects, and buffs them to a chrome finish. Many of the action sequences such as high-speed freeway confrontation that’s half car chase, half robot battle - are exhilarating. Sadly, there are too many of those scenes and grow stale quickly. The movie culminates in a chaotic military stand in what looks like downtown New York.
